Gallery IV

Humphrey Ocean RA admits that Gallery IV, which he curated, is “a reflection of me”. He aims to offer a “punctuation point” to Perry’s “gloriously exuberant hang” – but still with a good deal of subtle humour. Ocean feels that each work should bring an emotional ingredient to the overall installation; every work here “lifts you up”, he says.
The majority of the artwork here came from the open submission. A rippling, dark painting by Gary Hume RA anchors the end wall, sitting below Ben Johnson’s formal dome painting. Although the two works have an entirely different visual language, Ocean notes, they “strangely play off each other.”
