Part of Reclaiming magic: Yinka Shonibare’s picks for 2021

Pelin Pelin is a British-Kurdish producer, pianist and songwriter. Often working in an improvisational way, her compositions break down divisions between musical genres, creating hypnotic music that is radical in shape, emotional and inspirational.

Pelin has composed this piece specifically for the Summer Exhibition. It is tailored to work in tandem with the Summer Exhibition, helping the visitor avoid sensory overload. Pelin pieces her music together in an unconventional way, intuitively combining electronic sounds with the piano to create a magical “sonic experience” for the listener. The resulting compositions are influenced by club culture, but certainly not mainstream. Rather, they are gently confounding and deeply personal.

Pelin has been commissioned to compose numerous musical accompaniments for British and European fashion labels’ runway shows. Her self-produced first release Good People is now available through south London record label Curl.
